Cemetery For The Living
04:20
|
|||
It’s a cemetery for the living
Floating dreams through an asphalt sky
Hoping it doesn’t give in
So you can take it to the grave
It’s a cemetery for the living
See the tombstones that touch the sky
And the shadows they’re spilling
Will never make it to the grave

Sound of Running Water
04:10
|

There’s nothing in the sound of running water
To turn the tide of emptiness
No gushing of a waterfall to temper
With open ended plains to shallow floods
It’s hidden in the ways of murky waters
And the easiness of an easy breath
You wouldn’t expect to find it so near at hand
Or so empty of circumstance
Inner freedom
Unwraps as a warming glow
Coldness of mind
Unravels as a slipping thread

Many days you rest below
Wrapped up here, changing slow
The winter of your emptiness
Spent becoming more or something less
Spread your wings fly away
Spread your wings fly away
Spread your wings fly away

Here, beneath the forest trees
The light soft and scattered on tumbling leaves
A quiet, sunny afternoon
Is alive with the fluttering of delicate wings
Colours finally in bloom
Of flowers and charcoal and awaited skies
They dance and play with cloud and wind
And sing with the voice of small and silent things
The cries and laughter of kids
Blend with the innocence of the scene
Sticks are chosen like wands
And slash through the air in a scoring game
Those immaculate wings
Are torn and scattered like confetti
They veer and tumble from the sky
To crawl like lost termites and die as crooked souls

Unchanging

This place is filled with memories
Some close and others far
Of idle hours and sleepless nights
And passes in between
They move and breathe together here
And gather in the dark
Summers come and winters go
Though this is where I am
Homeplace
Where I can belong
Hear this
Emanating call
This place is where new eras start
And prosper in the sun
A breeding ground for small ideas
That build on older ones
There’s a treehouse left to slow decay
A creek that flooded once
A refuge made of simple things
That make me who I am
Homeplace
Where I can belong
Hear this
Emanating call
Still place
Where I can move on
Feel this
Full and easy song

Ormiston Gorge

It was a quiet night
The desert air felt so thin
We walked across loose rocks
On our way from the camping ground
Gathered sticks and small branches
And piled them high for a fire
Then Dad went back for the matches
Just as darkness began to fall
It was a cloudless night
With more first stars than we could count
The fire kept us all warm
As we stared into its ever shifting hues
We dreamed up constellations
And joked about the dangerous rangers
Lurking, hidden in the shadows
Watching us deep down in the gorge
The night sky milky blue
All awash with great lakes like drifting spirits
The moon and its sunspots and craters
They look the same as always
We talked of parallel universes
And of how time travel just might be real
We discovered the meaning of it all
Then smoked marshmallows in the embers
Rolled out our mats under the moonlight
Under a blanket of dancing stars
My sleeping bag was freezing cold at first
Then I fell asleep with the image of the coals
The night sky lights up
With the glow of falling stars like fiery demons
The warm campfire crackle
It sounds the same as always
